Kingmaker Episode 5 – Fey, Wedding Ring, and Bandit Blood

(Thanks to Törde! my recording borked)

Sequence of Events
The session began at Oleg's Trading Post where you interrogated the captured bandit, HapsGassi made a memorable contribution by using a bizarre mixture of potatoes, honey, salt, and feathers to persuade the terrified captive to reveal the location of the bandit camp. You learned that it was a day’s journey to the southwest, near the river, and led by a woman named Kressle. Before you left, Svetlana confronted the bandit and asked you to keep an eye out for her stolen wedding ring.

After looting the fallen bandits for valuables, including several Stag Lord amulets, you set off on foot, leaving the wagon with Oleg. Svetlana also gave you a tip about a mysterious hermit named Bokken who sells magic potions to the east.

The journey into the woods led you straight into an illusionary tapestry of children’s laughter and flashing lights. You quickly realized you were dealing with Fey. After walking in circles, Gassi, with a mix of logic and flattery, managed to initiate a dialogue with the invisible guardians. They disliked “big folk” like the bandits, and after Nym sacrificed one of the amulets as a gift, they gave you a vision pointing south along the river, towards the bandit camp. As a small prank, they also stole Zogg‘s compass.

You found the camp and staged a plan: Gassi as a prisoner, the rest disguised as bandits using the amulets. The attempt to talk your way in failed catastrophically when warning shots quickly escalated into a full-scale battle. The fight was intense. Archers in watchtowers rained arrows down on you while Kressle, armed with dual axes, proved to be a fearsome opponent. Zogg became her focus and was badly injured, but was saved by Gassi‘s healing magic. Aurelio acted as a tank, tying up Kressle with feints and insults, while Nym climbed a tower to silence one of the archers. Nym‘s sword displayed a strange transformation into a kind of sword-whip that left deep, claw-like wounds. In the end, you managed to fell all the bandits, but Kressle bled out from her injuries before you could interrogate her.

You searched the camp but found neither Svetlana’s ring nor any clues about the Stag Lord‘s hideout. As you made camp for the night, Nym returned from a conversation with the Fey. They thanked you and revealed that the “big baddie” was about a day’s march away, but warned that you were not yet ready. They also mentioned other enemies, possibly poachers, in the opposite direction.

Great Mysteries & Clues

  • The Stag Lord‘s position is unknown, but the Fey hint that he is a day’s march from the bandit camp and that you are too weak to face him now.
  • Svetlana’s wedding ring was not found in the bandit camp. Perhaps it’s with another group of bandits?
  • The identity and location of the “other baddies” (poachers?) that the Fey mentioned. They are said to be in the “opposite direction,” which you interpreted as northwest from your meeting with the fey.
  • The mysterious alchemist Bokken. Can he help you with more than just potions?
  • Nym‘s weapon, which seems to be able to transform into an entirely different, more brutal weapon.

Cliffhanger
After a well-deserved rest in the cleared bandit camp, you have returned to the Fey’s domain at the riverbend. You have decided to follow their advice and investigate the threat from the poachers to the northwest before taking on the more powerful Stag Lord. Will the Fey continue to be your fickle allies, and what new dangers await in the unexplored parts of the Stolen Lands?
