Kingmaker Episode 4 – Moose, Rumors, and a Trap

Sequence of Events
The session begins with you, despite the night’s hard battles, deciding to immediately travel west. The journey is abruptly interrupted when you are attacked by two raging moose. The fight is brutal, and Nym is severely wounded and trampled before you finally manage to fell the beasts. After skinning the animals for meat and pelts, and tending to your wounds, you continue your journey.

You arrive at the small village of Nektas's Crossing, and in the local tavern, you pick up a series of crucial rumors. There is talk of a notorious bandit king known as the Stag Lord who haunts the Greenbelt area, a trapper named Brix who has joined the bandits, and a destroyed bridge that the bandits use to channel travelers into ambushes. Despite the temptation to investigate these leads, you decide that your main goal, Oleg's Trading Post, is the top priority.

After another day’s travel, past the roaring Shrike's Cascade waterfall, you finally reach your destination: a fortified trading post on the edge of the wilderness. The owners, Oleg and Svetlana, tell you that for months they have been plagued by bandits demanding protection money. By pure “coincidence,” the next visit is expected any day now.

You see your chance to kill two birds with one stone and stage a cunning ambush. Gassi rigs up a brilliant fire trap with a barrel of oil, while the rest of the group hides on the palisade walls. The next morning, four unsuspecting bandits arrive. The trap is sprung, and a wall of fire explodes in front of them. The fight is short and intense. From your advantageous positions, you make short work of the attackers. Three of them are killed quickly, and the last is captured by Maven after a dramatic, if somewhat clumsy, jump from the wall.

  • The Stag Lord: The rumors paint a picture of a dangerous and mythical bandit king. Who is he, where is his fortress, and are the stories about him having a ghost as an ally true?

  • Brix the Trapper: A specific individual, Brix, has been pointed out as a bandit. He could be a key person in finding the bandits’ main camp.
  • The Fading Marks: Nym discovers that not only the mysterious scars from before but also the memory of them have begun to disappear. What is behind this strange phenomenon?

Cliffhanger
The ambush at Oleg's Trading Post was a complete success. Three bandits are dead, and the last one is struggling in Maven's iron grip. You have secured the trading post for the moment and have your first living prisoner. Now, the interrogation begins. What secrets will he reveal? Where is the rest of his gang, and what does he know about the legendary Stag Lord?
