Kingmaker Episode 8 – Mitflits, Centipedes, and Mikmek’s Courage

Sequence of Events
The session began with you being led deeper into the kobolds’ cave by the nervous Niknak. You arrived at the throne room where you met the leader, Sootscale, a proud but pressured kobold. His leadership is being questioned after the tribe’s holy Totem was stolen by Mitflits – small, malevolent fey creatures. After a hesitant start, where Aurelio‘s handshake attempt was ignored and Zogg grew impatient, Gassi succeeded with an impressive diplomatic effort to convince Sootscale. You agreed to retrieve the Totem in exchange for information. Maven immediately “adopted” the outcast Niknak.

Niknak led you on a 10-12 hour, exhausting march to the Mitflit nest – a hole under a large tree – before hastily returning. Gassi shared his knowledge: Mitflits are fey-related and vulnerable to cold iron. After a short rest to recover, you tackled the narrow tunnels. The entrance was a 3-meter-deep climb down among roots. Maven jumped down elegantly, while Gassi, inspired but lacking technique, attempted the same maneuver and landed in a heap right on top of an unprepared Aurelio.

Once down in the claustrophobic tunnels, which some of you had to crawl through, you encountered a workshop with two Mitflits. Combat broke out. The creatures used strange devices that shot small pellets, which lowered Maven‘s agility. Maven responded with his axe and cleaved one of them, whereupon the other fled.

You continued deeper and were ambushed in a larger cave. Several Mitflits attacked from all sides, and you also discovered four captured kobolds. A chaotic battle ensued where you were stuck in the tunnel opening. Nym teleported past the bottleneck, Zogg unleashed a cone of fire, and Maven went berserk. The last Mitflit attacker was defeated, and Gassi convinced the surviving captured kobold, Mikmek, that you were there to help. Mikmek, overjoyed to be free, warned you about the giant centipedes (Giant Centipedes) that the Mitflits use as work animals and decided to fight by your side.

After Maven collected blood from a previous enemy, you reached a deep chasm. Gassi conjured a ladder so you could cross it. As you carefully balanced your way across, the ground shook and an enormous Giant Centipede burst from the ground! Several Mitflits, some riding Giant Stag Beetles, joined the fray. The chaos was total. Mikmek bravely threw his spear but was brutally cut down by a Mitflit, which made Maven see red and launch a violent counter-attack to avenge your new friend.

Cliffhanger
The battle rages in the heart of the Mitflit nest. The giant centipede lies dead, a result of your combined efforts, but the threat is far from over. Aurelio is severely injured and surrounded at the bottom of the chasm. Your newfound, brave companion Mikmek lies dying on the ground after a brutal attack. Maven, furious over the attack on Mikmek, has just cleaved an enemy in two. With enemies still pouring in, can you survive the onslaught and save your new ally before it’s too late?
